Nugeneration (Pty) Ltd – Electrical Engineers installs, operates and maintains and remotely monitors Solar PV installations for commercial and industrial properties.
We have a combined 70 years of experience in Electrical Engineering, Project Management, Utility Management and Electricity Retail. Nugeneration Electrical Engineers specialises in electrical master planning and system analysis locally and into Africa.
We use the DigSilent simulation software for all our system analyses and protection coordination studies. Nugeneration also does testing of equipment on electrical networks. We provide these services to the mining sector, municipalities and Eskom.
Nugeneration was founded by Roelf Loots in 2008. He has 20 years’ experience in high and medium voltage transmission and distribution networks. During this period he was actively involved as Consulting Engineer in power system planning and compilation of master plans for the Transmission system for Tshwane Electricity. In 2002 he was appointed as Managing Engineer for the Tshwane Transmission System until 2007. From 1999 to 2009 he lectured part-time in various subjects at the University of Pretoria in electrical engineering.

Engineering excellence in renewable energy solutions for the commercial and industrial sector
Nugeneration has from 2016 executed numerous rooftop PV Solar projects from household off-grid solutions to large 1283kWp grid-tied projects.
We do all designs inhouse on PVSol software and do the project management including the engineering, procurement and
contract management (EPC).
Utilities sometimes need help with doing cost of supply and tariff studies. Nugeneration can also help in setting up / updating their asset registers.
It is also important for utilities to manage maintenance schedules, do technical audits and perform condition monitoring on electrical system components.
The main focus in our business is performing system studies as part of simulations and master planning on electrical systems.
Load flow and fault level analyses are done to simulate electrical systems. We also do protection coordination studies for municipalities and mines.

COMBINED OVER 50 YEARS EXPERIENCE
Roelf is the Principal Electrical Engineer, high voltage electrical system and utility management specialist. He has an honours degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Pretoria where he also lectured part time for a number of years. He previously held the position of Managing Engineer for the Tshwane Transmission System and has more than 30+ years of industry experience. He has extensive experience in the design of Solar PV systems. He has been involved in Solar PV projects since 2015 and has overseen numerous large scale PV projects. He also does electrical consulting work for electrical utilities as well as the mining sector.
Neels received his training from Siemens, and qualified as an electrician whilst still in Siemens’ service. He received extensive training on electrical installation work, electronics, and UPS’s. He successfully passed his trade test at Olifanstfontein, obtained his wireman’s license and passed his PV Green Card Cum Laude. He is registered with the DoL, is a member of ECA and is also registered with SAPVIA. He has been involved in numerous PV projects in the past seven years ranging from domestic hybrid systems with backup batteries to large commercial grid-tie
Jan-Philip is the electrical engineer responsible for the technical design of the solar systems. He has a degree in electrical and electronic engineering from Stellenbosch University and specialised in Energy. Jan-Philip uses PVSOL 3D simulation software to determine the power production of each solar system. He has simulated hundreds of these solar systems in the years working for Nugeneration.
